Resize anchors — examples

The examples show what happens to a panel when you change the object size, with exact numbers before and after. What each mode means is in Resize anchors.

In every example the board is 18 mm. You change an anchor in the panel form: Properties → Advanced settings → Resize anchors. You change the object size in Object parameters, with Resize panels with object on.

1. A shelf at an exact height from the bottom

Section titled “1. A shelf at an exact height from the bottom”

Wardrobe 1000 × 2000 × 600 mm. A shelf above the hanging rail: its underside is 1700 mm above the bottom.

The shelf is above the middle of the wardrobe, so the app gives it Y End by itself — it follows the top. When you raise the wardrobe to 2200 mm, the shelf keeps its distance to the top and moves up by 200 mm, to 1900 mm above the bottom — and the hanging space under it changes with it.

To keep the shelf at 1700 mm:

  1. Select the shelf.
  2. Resize anchors → Y → Start (− edge).
  3. Change the wardrobe height to 2200 mm.
Before (2000 mm) Y End Y Start
Shelf above the bottom 1700 mm 1900 mm 1700 mm

Carcass 600 × 720 × 560 mm with the bottom and top between the sides and two shelves. The inside is 684 mm, and the shelves split it into three equal spaces of 216 mm.

The lower shelf is below the middle and gets Y Start by itself, the upper one is above the middle and gets Y End. When you raise the carcass to 900 mm, both stay by their edge, so all the new space goes into the middle compartment.

To keep the shelves spread:

  1. Select both shelves (Select multiple panels → Edit selected together).
  2. Resize anchors → Y → Scale.
  3. Change the carcass height to 900 mm.
Space Before (720 mm) Y Start / End Y Scale
Bottom 216 mm 216 mm 276.75 mm
Middle 216 mm 396 mm 274.5 mm
Top 216 mm 216 mm 276.75 mm

Scale moves the shelves in the same ratio while the board thicknesses stay the same — that is why the spaces are not quite equal (about 2 mm apart). If they must be exactly equal, align them after the resize with Move and fit.

Carcass 600 × 720 × 560 mm with an upright divider exactly in the middle.

The divider is in the middle, so the app gives it X Center by itself. When you widen the carcass to 900 mm, it stays in the middle: both compartments grow from 273 to 423 mm. Nothing to change here.

If the divider is not exactly in the middle, the app gives it X Start or End, by the closer edge — on a resize it keeps its distance to that edge. If you want the compartments to grow in roughly the same ratio, use X Center.

4. A divider at an exact distance from the side

Section titled “4. A divider at an exact distance from the side”

Carcass 600 × 720 × 560 mm. The left compartment must be exactly 400 mm wide (e.g. for a basket or an appliance), the right one takes everything else.

The divider is right of the middle, so it gets X End by itself: on a resize it would stay by the right side and the left compartment would grow. So:

  1. Select the divider.
  2. Resize anchors → X → Custom (references).
  3. − side → Panel → the left side panel. The gap next to it reads 400 mm.
  4. + side → Free.
  5. Change the carcass width to 900 mm.
Compartment Before (600 mm) X End X Custom
Left 400 mm 700 mm 400 mm
Right 146 mm 146 mm 446 mm

Carcass 600 × 720 × 560 mm. A front rail under the top: 564 × 100 mm, flush with the front edge.

The rail does not fill the carcass height, so the app gives it Y Scale by itself. When you raise the carcass to 900 mm, the rail becomes 125 mm high and moves 4.5 mm away from the top. To keep it 100 mm, right under the top:

  1. Select the rail.
  2. In Dimensions, lock Height (the lock next to the size).
  3. Resize anchors → Y → End (+ edge).
  4. Change the carcass height to 900 mm.
Before (720 mm) Y Scale Height locked + Y End
Rail height 100 mm 125 mm 100 mm
Gap to the top 0 mm 4.5 mm 0 mm

On X the rail fills the width and has Stretch by itself, on Z it has End — it stays by the front edge.

6. A wrong anchor: the shelf runs into the divider

Section titled “6. A wrong anchor: the shelf runs into the divider”

Carcass 600 × 720 × 560 mm with a divider in the middle and a shelf in the left compartment only (273 mm wide).

If you give the shelf X Stretch, the form warns: The panel doesn’t span the opening on this axis — growing the object may overlap neighboring panels. When you widen the carcass to 900 mm, the shelf gets the whole 300 mm of extra width and runs 150 mm past the divider. The red marker at the bottom right reports the overlap.

The right setup is one of these:

  • X Custom: − side → the left side panel, + side → the divider. The shelf always fills exactly the left compartment (423 mm at a width of 900 mm).
  • X Scale (what the app picks by itself): the shelf grows to 409.5 mm, but leaves 9 mm to the side and 4.5 mm to the divider.

You can always undo a size change with Ctrl / ⌘ + Z.

You can tell the same to the AI assistant — e.g. Keep the shelf above the rail at 1700 mm from the bottom when I change the height. The assistant sets the anchors, shows you the warnings and checks for overlaps.
